No cafes. No bars. If the business isn’t deemed essential, it’s shut. As I type, what this ultimately means for everyone is unclear. I was at a gathering of RVers, sensibly applying the ‘social distancing’ measures urged by our governments, when news began to trickle through that ‘lockdown’ was coming. Vanners at the gathering began to worry. Would I be allowed to travel home? Should I pack up and hit the road now, while I still could? These questions and more were being asked in semi-urgent whispers. By the time you read this, the advice and news will have changed, but as of now, the BY MAX TAYLOR Caravan Industry Association of Australia is urging the government to deem caravan parks an essential service, in view of its estimation that there are about 75,000 Australians away from their normal residence or using an RV as their permanent home. It is clear, however, that our National Cabinet would like everyone to postpone all travels for the purposes of recreation. This is devastating for our lifestyles, and for the Australian RV industry. If you are a business owner, you are hurting. If you are an employee, you are hurting. If you are a parent wondering about schooling your child, you are hurting. But we are in this together, whatever ‘this’ is. Keep some faith – and be safe.
