RV FEATURE SWAYCONTROL INSTALLATION ON TOUR, IN CONTROL A NEW SWAY CONTROL DEVICE HAS HIT THE AUSTRALIAN MARKET. BMPRO, known for its range of RV battery management systems and other 12V products, has launched SwayControl. This unit behaves similarly to the electronic stability control found in a vehicle in that when it detects sway, it instantly applies power to the caravan’s brakes proportionally to the severity of the sway as well as asymmetrically. This means that power to the brakes is applied so as to activate either the left or right side of the caravan to reduce the sway. “This is similar to a car where the brakes are not applied with ‘brute force’ to stop the car but used proportionally and asymmetrically to bring the car back under control,” BMPRO’s David Bayliss said. “BMPRO SwayControl behaves in a similar manner. “Powerful microprocessors combine with patented technology to assist drivers if a sway event begins, often without the driver even being aware that it is activating.” 64 \ According to Bayliss, BMPRO SwayControl senses when the van is travelling in offroad conditions, such as corrugations and ruts, and will automatically switch to ‘offroad’ mode. In this mode, the unit won’t activate unnecessarily. When back on smooth road, the system will automatically reactivate. Bayliss said that another advantage of BMPRO SwayControl was that it utilised the van’s onboard battery – it doesn’t require power from the tow vehicle, so there is no need to also install separate wiring in the vehicle. BMPRO SwayControl is compatible with all major brake controllers, such as Hayes, Redarc and Prodigy controllers. MORE INFO BMPRO SwayControl RRP: $995 teambmpro.com
