Excuse me if I don’t believe that everything has gone swimmingly. Because when it comes to RVing, things happen. SALES DIRECTOR Grant Manson - 0417 052 819 NATIONAL SALES MANAGER I’m going to be brutally honest about something I’d rather forget. About 10 years ago, I was towing a pop-top around Coffs Harbour, looking for a place to park, as part of my review of that van for a major national magazine that I used to manage. Ashley Manson - 0438 051 354 VIDEOGRAPHER/EDITOR James Manson All possible parking spaces were taken, so I started poking down side streets, intending to pull up alongside someone’s nature strip. I found a suitable prospect and proceeded to pilot the vehicle and van to the kerb. Suddenly, I felt a tug on the towball and heard a loud screech. PRODUCTION COORDINATOR Adriana Manson GRAPHIC DESIGNERS Rob Mangoni + Will Blazejewski Heart pounding, stomach dropping, I climbed out to find the barrel of the awning on the nature strip, having been torn off the side of the van. The awning arms were clinging to the cladding for dear life. Immediately, I saw the problem. As I’d pulled in, the awning barrel had caught a solid overhead branch, the screws retaining the awning at the top of the van tearing jagged lines through the thin cladding. I learned a valuable lesson that day: when towing a van, don’t just look side to side. Look up, too.
