RV FEATURE Atlantic Caravans has been in the game since 2010. In January 2018, this unassuming manufacturer launched a dedicated offroader, the High Terrain, which has since become one of the manufacturer’s top sellers. Our review van was fitted out with a number of options, including a diesel heater and an upgraded Fusion sound system. When we tested this van, it was a little cheaper at $79,990 but it’s now $83,000 (ex-Melbourne). Nonetheless, we reckon it still offers decent bang for buck. It is built on a 6in SupaGal chassis with 3.5-tonne OzTrekker suspension, a leading-trailing arm coil system that uses a single shock absorber per trailing/leading arm. During our time with the van, which included various terrain types, the OzTrekker outfit acquitted itself well. The cabinetry throughout the High Terrain appears to be carefully constructed. We saw no poor joins or splinters during our time with it. With its classy hotel-room-style fitout, the High Terrain comes with all of the gear you’d expect for its price point. HITS WHAT WE SAID • Generous payload capacity The Atlantic High Terrain definitely seems fit for purpose. Though with its meranti timber frame and composite aluminium cladding, it doesn’t break new ground in terms of construction, it does pay heed to the offroad-caravan essentials: component protection, adequate fresh water and 12V power provision, and, dare I say it, creature comforts. check • Protection for (almost) all vulnerable components • Stability under tow • Decent value for money MISSES times • I’d like for the grey water tank outlet to also be protected • I’d also like drawers for the storage space under the dinette lounges ORIGINAL REVIEW HIGH LIFE! / 19
