Never being afraid to give something a crack myself, I found the installation to be easier than I expected. (The hardest part was overcoming my anxiety about drilling rivet holes into my new vehicle’s roof.) With the leg mounts fitted to the tracks, it was just a matter of aligning the legs themselves – which I pre- fitted to the rack – with the leg mounts in the tracks. Then, a mate and I simply lifted it onto the roof of the car and locked the legs into the leg mounts. I was very surprised how easy the rack was to lift. The two of us could lift it comfortably – previous roof racks I have installed required the assistance of three or four friends. I’ve owned two other aluminium tray-style roof racks but so far I’m happiest with the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Tray. It looks well-engineered, strong and reliable. And using the leg-mount system, it can be readily removed – the tracks, though, are there to stay. Finally, the Pioneer Tray is available in a range of sizes and mounting configurations to suit different 4WDs. Highly recommended. 42 \ The channel nut system made it easy to clamp a solar panel to the roof rack.
