RV FEATURE REDUCE YOUR FUEL COSTS STAY A LITTLE BIT LONGER The beauty of travelling full time means we're in no rush. If we love a place or our set budget is running low for the week, we will just stay put a little longer and enjoy ourselves DISCOUNT RECEIPTS Another essential we all need to buy, whether travelling or not, is food and groceries. We try to shop at big-name supermarkets where possible as very often their receipts offer a few cents off per litre. We have also found a few information centres that have ‘cents off per litre’ discount cards for their local fuel retailers.  FUEL APPS Fuel apps are great. They give you recent prices of fuel at all nearby bowsers. Recently, there were two service stations within 100m of each other with a $0.15/L difference! Without the fuel app we wouldn’t have known the cheaper option was there until it was too late. We use ‘Fuel App Australia’. MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED Driving at a constant speed is easy on long outback roads or open highways. We generally stick to about 90km/h when towing the van. This improves our fuel consumption slightly in comparison to driving at 100km/h and also makes us feel safer. 36 gorv.com.au CHECK TYRE PRESSURES Tyre pressures can have an impact on your fuel efficiency. Checking your tyre pressures is such an easy chore and can save you money at the fuel pump (as well as many other problems!). According to the US Department of Energy, “every one PSI drop of tyre pressure in all four tyres under the recommended number, fuel mileage can worsen by 0.3 per cent”. LOAD UP THE JERRYS If you know you're heading away from a larger town or city for a while, stock up on some extra fuel when you find a good price. LIGHTEN THE LOAD We need to follow our own advice here but getting rid of unnecessary baggage can help improve your fuel consumption. A loaded roof rack will decrease fuel economy even more.
