RV TRAVEL
We were looking for somewhere different.
Somewhere stunning. Somewhere on the mid-north
coast of New South Wales where we could relax
together, swim and just generally revel in the sun.
In the heart of the Great Lakes region, and on the
doorstep of Myall Lakes National Park, with its
extensive system of coastal waterways, is Forster.
About 300km north of Sydney, it’s well and truly
off the highway. In fact, after leaving the Pacific
Highway, it’s an hour’s drive along the winding road
known as The Lakes Way, through valleys and over
over hills, breathtaking glimpses of far-off lakes
teasing the approach of something pretty special.
And as a holiday location, the twin towns of Forster-
Tuncurry are indeed pretty special. Unsure what
to expect, we were surprised to find a bustling
township offering more services and facilities than
your average suburb. Truly, one could pull up, find
a spot with a view, and never leave…
BUSHLAND CAMPING
Nestled in amongst it all is Lani’s Holiday Island,
home base for a week or so as we explored Forster’s
beaches. We even tried our hand at kayaking on one
of the lakes — my arms are still tired.
On Wallis Lake, Lani’s is peppered with palm trees,
cabins, powered sites… and a relaxed vibe that
would make the stiffest holidaymaker go with the
flow.
But as welcoming and easy-going as this park is,
what truly sets it apart is the 100 acres of well-kept
bushland at the back of the park – the island in
Lani’s Holiday Island.
Games on the grass with Captain Tony.
