RV FEATURE The writer tows his Roadstar Safari Tamer with a 200 Series. A further complication is that the GVM of some vehicles varies depending on the amount of mass placed on the towball. For example, a Y62 Patrol has a GVM of 3500kg; however, if the towball mass is 300kg, the GVM is reduced to 3430kg. A towball mass of 325kg lowers it further to 3400kg. With 350kg on the towball, it reduces to 3370kg. MAXIMUM TOWING CAPACITY Maximum Towing Capacity is the total weight of a trailer that can be towed by the vehicle. It includes the towball weight of the trailer. Be very careful when assessing the towing capacity of your vehicle. Normally it is stated in the vehicle handbook or the manufacturer's website, but it should also be stated on the towbar itself. It is usually subject to towbar and/or towball capacity as well as the design of the towbar itself. It may be reduced if a non-genuine towbar is fitted. gorv.com.au 11
