RV FEATURE 1. BARBECUE You can’t rely on camping grounds to have barbecues and, if they do, you can’t rely on them being clean, to work properly or even work long enough or get hot enough to cook your food. Now, when we designed our caravan, we had the option of the Ziggy or the Weber. We went with the Baby Q Weber. It is an essential part of our weekly cooking options and will be for you too. The good thing about our barbecue is that it can also be used as an oven — we can cook a great roast, scones, cakes and other items that we would normally cook in an oven. 2. GROUND MAT We love a great mat for outside our caravan door and under the awning. Our best advice here is to try them out in the store or at a show. Walk on them with your shoes on, in bare feet, spill water on them (if they’ll let you!) and anything else you think might help you decide if the mat will suit your needs. We carry a Mat by Design mat, which we love. It is made from recycled plastic, is easy to care for, and in over two years of almost daily use, it has not let us down. It is light, too. We also carry a piece of fake grass with us. This is often used when we don’t need the large mat (for overnight) or in situations where we need to wipe mud off before walking on our mat. It is cheap, easy to hose off and light as well. 3. CAMERA The all-important way to capture your memories, the good times, the funny times and the downright frustrating times. A camera — even the one on your phone — will help you to do this. We carry a Cannon digital SLR, a GoPro, a drone, and, of course, our trusty phones. LEVELLERS Not every camp ground is level, and there is nothing worse than sleeping in a van with a lean — you are either rolling out your side of the bed, or pushing your bed partner off their side of the bed. Lying on the top bunk and trying to stay in your bed while also trying to sleep is not fun, either. A decent set of levellers will help. Mum usually gets the job of seeing if the van is level when we use them — yep, she must stand between the van and the car to see the spirit level. gorv.com.au 9
