GENE SCHULTZ AWARD WINNER:

Bill Ansley

Bill Ansley, a lifelong resident of Ottumwa and a retiree from UPS, has shown remarkable dedication to our community. His contributions have made a significant impact on all of us.

One of his most notable efforts is his responsibility for the“ Holiday Nights N’ Lights” event, a 42-day celebration in Greater Ottumwa Park during the holiday season. Bill has volunteered for years, ensuring the event runs smoothly and brings joy to the community.
Bill’ s commitment extends beyond this event. As a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, he has served on nearly every board and continues to serve the congregation with dedication. His efforts include maintaining church property, organizing volunteers and ensuring the wellbeing of church members.
In addition, Bill has been a member of the board of trustees of the Shaw Cemetery Association since 2016, volunteering over 1,000 hours to improve the gardens, maintain the shop, and manage the main office. His leadership and genuine care for people have made a significant difference.
At UPS, Bill was known for his safety and dedication, often helping train new hires. This commitment carried forward to his years delivering prescriptions for Hy-Vee Drugs, where he was courteous and reliable.
Bill Ansley embodies the spirit of generosity and service that the Gene Schultz Community Service Award represents. We are honored to recognize his outstanding contributions to our community.
The Gene Schultz Community Service Award, established by friends Charlie Barnett and Dick Ramsayer with the blessing of Gene’ s widow Rose and his late parents Marian and Rich, continues to honor the legacy of Gene Schultz by recognizing outstanding volunteer service in the Ottumwa community.
