A growing network of trails based along the levee system on the Des Moines River provides plenty of recreational opportunities for walkers , runners and cyclists to enjoy the natural beauty of the area . Trail projects over the past few years include the Highway 63 underpass and a two-mile , 8-foot wide paved trail that was part of the Milner Street paving project . Memorial Park features a mountain bike trail built to International Mountain Bicycling Association standards which winds through the wooded sections of the park . It is also open to hikers .
