The Fourth of July weekend has come to mean that it ’ s rodeo time in Ottumwa !

The Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress Rodeo is a double-sanctioned event through the Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association with presenting sponsor 10-15 Transit . The first event , in 2017 , drew about 500 spectators who enjoyed the excitement of bucking bulls , horses , bareback riding and barrel racing . The tradition has carried on , with 2022 ’ s event drawing about 1,500 spectators and participants to the grounds in
Greater Ottumwa Park .
The show has grown . In 2018 , it was named the Best One-Day Rodeo in Iowa by the Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association . In 2020 , it expanded to a two-day event , featuring trick rider Dusty Kimzey . In
2021 , Kimzey partnered with local trick rider Dally Orman . It also moved to a three-day event with the addition of the Brenda Sieren Memorial Barrel Race , in which the proceeds of the event go to the American Cancer Society .
The 2022 Rodeo marked the rodeo ’ s sixth year . On Friday and Saturday , lots of excitement was had and competition saw 10 events . The rodeo also brought in Left the Clown , who kept the crowd entertained between events . The Greater Ottumwa Rodeo boasts an economic impact of $ 1.2 million to the Ottumwa economy over the three-day event .
Food trucks offered concessions for virtually all appetites , and non-food vendors as well .
As with all Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress events , volunteers are always needed to work in supporting roles .
Tickets for the rodeo are : $ 10 in advance and $ 12 at the gate for adults ; $ 5 for children aged 6-12 ; and free for those under 5 . A family pack can be purchased for $ 30 . Advance tickets can be purchased from the Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress office .
