Ottumwa Jobs Corps Center Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U . S . Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training . The program ’ s mission is teaching eligible young people the skills they need to become employable and independent and placing them in meaningful jobs or further education .
Ottumwa Job Corps provides self-paced career technical training in facilities maintenance , health care , network cable installation and material handling and distribution operations . Graduates receive job placement assistance , career counseling and relocation counseling services .
In addition to career technical training , Ottumwa Job Corps provides academic training , including basic reading and math . Courses in independent living , employability skills and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace . Students can earn their HSE or high school diploma , enter the English Language Learning program and even take driver ’ s education . College programs are available through Indian Hills Community College in advanced manufacturing , construction , health care , culinary arts , information technology , renewable resources and energy and transportation fields .
