Hello , and welcome to Ottumwa ! If you haven ’ t been here recently , you need to see the threeblock street scape on Main Street . Not only did we improve the pedestrian foot traffic , but we now have 120 upper-story apartments that are all full !
We also completed our new 6,000-foot runway at the airport , which can handle most jet traffic . As part of the airport improvement , we hired a licensed pilot to operate the FBO . He will give flying lessons and do aircraft repairs .
This year was the best year ever for the operation of The Beach Ottumwa . Not only did we make a profit , but we had great attendance due to the hot summer weather . We also hosted more birthday parties at The Beach .
During the month of August , we hosted the 14-yearold Babe Ruth World Series in Greater Ottumwa Park . We had 10 teams from all over the U . S . who provided us with great baseball games and lots of fun for the weeklong tournament .
In September , the city council voted to work with
Cobblestone Hotels to build a new 84-room hotel next to Bridge View Center . This will help BVC bring more conferences and concerts to the community .
There is lots happening with new leadership in the community and the best collaboration between many of our partners . This public-private partnership will enable other economic development in the area .
Ottumwa boasts the nicest and friendliest people in the state . They are hard-working and great neighbors . Come visit us and stay a while . Better yet , let us surprise you with our diversity and great activities . We just celebrated International Day at the Jimmy Jones Shelter will lots of ethnic foods , music and dance .
