Hope ’ s struggle to find the right counselor led her to understand that Winds of Change won ’ t be the right fit for everyone .
“ The company that ’ s down the street is not going to be able to help everyone ,” she said . “ There ’ s room at the table for everybody , because everybody ’ s situations are different .”
Hope may not be a counselor herself but the field called to her , and she took a job as a receptionist with a local center . Then about a year ago , the Huddlestons decided it was time to open their own center .

In addition to counseling services , Winds of Change offers targeted case management to help clients with resources for needs such as housing , food , transportation , clothing , child care , GED , free legal aid , obtaining legal documents , insurance , money management and goal setting .
“ We ’ ve partnered with a couple of places on job placement and training ,” Hope said . “ We ’ ve also partnered with a clinic in Barbourville who will able to make sure that our clients have primary care .”

“ If you have in mind that you need help , it ’ s so at your fingertips now to just ask ,” Hope said . “… If someone comes to us and we feel like we can ’ t help them , I would not let them leave without finding them help somewhere else . I don ’ t want anyone to be like I was . I don ’ t want them to walk out the door and three years later [ try to find help again ].… If there were more businesses that had that approach , a lot of things would not go unseen or undone .”
