Eye injuries happen more often than many people realize. From yard work and home repairs to sports and even everyday play, accidents can cause lasting damage if precautions aren’ t taken. Dr. Melissa Ball, optometrist at Professionals in Eye Care, says she sees these injuries regularly— and many could have been prevented.

“ One of the most common things I see is people working in their yard or on a car without wearing safety glasses,” Ball said.“ It happens all the time, and it’ s preventable.”
Mechanics grinding metal, homeowners trimming weeds, or children playing outside often end up in her office with foreign bodies in their eyes or blunt trauma.
