understanding the hands that feed us TIME: 35 minutes PURPOSE: Identify some of the roles of food workers and the challenges they face, begin to understand the landscape of initiatives to enhance working conditions for food workers. MATERIALS: • Gallery Walk Graphics - see following pages • Foodworker Case Studies Handouts - see following pages • Tape to adhere to Gallery Walk print outs to wall, if applicable PRINT INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Display the Gallery Walk Graphics 2. Read the quotes and statistics posted for each food chain worker. 3. Ask participants to consider the risks and challenges of each job and share them out. 4. When you are finished, think of one more food chain worker not mentioned in the activity and think of any risks and challenges for that job as well. Be prepared to share your answers. 5. Divide participants into four groups and assign each group to a food worker. 6. Distribute case studies for each food worker to assigned groups. 7. Have the groups read the case study and then share out the following: a. Risks and challenges faced by the worker b. The intervention to promote fair wages and/or safer working conditions c.
