SPECIAL NOTE: This activity functions well as a long-term exhibit in your classroom, counseling
or wellness centers.
TIMELINE ORDER:
1903 - First Farmworkers Union
1942- Bracer Program Begins
1946- National School Lunch Act is Passed
1965- Start of United Farm Workers Association & Delano Grape Strike
1969: Free Breakfast Program started by Black Panther Party
1982- Reagan Administration Slashes School Lunch Spending
2010- Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act

Add local examples to the timeline as well. For example:

PRINT
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Have students guess the order in which each event has happened.
2. Assign small groups of students to each event to research what happened, and then share
out to the group.
3. Add events to timeline.
4. Have students review all events on the timeline.
5. After students review the events on the timeline, engage the class in a discussion around
major themes in the timeline: worker programs, unions, and regulations. See the discussion
questions below.
