School food advisory
Every Friday evening, a group of students from the San Francisco Unified School
District gathers together to create system-wide change in their district’s food system:
aiming for a school dining experience that is inclusive and equitable. This group,
the Student Food Advisory, spends the year learning about food systems and how
school food works, before engaging in design-thinking alongside Student Nutrition
Services to pitch new school meals. The new school meal options are then presented
to students, families, teachers, and district administrators.
Does your district have a Student Food Advisory? Can you start one?
