HOW TO USE
This isn’t meant to resemble conventional classroom learning, where one person does most
of the talking and others are expected to mainly listen. Instead, we hope to involve youth
voices and perspectives as much as possible, which is why there are a variety of activities
where youth share their learnings with each other.
We recommend that facilitators read through the entire toolkit before leading any discussion
or activity sessions. We suggest starting with the Good Food Overview. This overview and
the accompanying activities will lay the groundwork to show the interconnectedness of issues
within the food system and will help gauge which values are most relevant to the group you
are working with.
The remainder of the toolkit is arranged by value area, which do not need to be taught in any
particular order. Each value/issue area will contain:
• A backgrounder on the issue/value;
• Suggested short film(s) to screen;
• Activities (including discussion topics) with a materials checklist and estimated times;
• Additional resources for deeper learning
This toolkit has been designed to allow the facilitator
to adapt to the needs of their group: modules can be
done in any order, activities can be chosen (or skipped)
according to resources and interest, etc.
We highly encourage you to adjust to best reflect the
needs and wants of your group. This can be done as
an ongoing curriculum, an intensive workshop, or as
supplements to your curriculum. Using it differently?
Let us know, we are all ears.
