The first time Golfhacker met Ashley Mason was at the British Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall in 2017. Back then, he was our professional player in the Pro-Am competition. He was difficult not to like. Considering we were playing in our first ever Pro- Am, Mason proved to be the perfect partner.
That year, he finished in second place. It meant two things for Mason. He guaranteed his place at the 2018 Championship meaning that he would not have to qualify again. Mason also gained a considerable financial prize that he intended to use wisely in order to further his career.
Knowing that he would be returning to Nailcote Hall, we decided to have a catch up with him in order to find out how his year has progressed since the first time we met.
In order to prepare for this years British Par 3 Championship, Ashley revealed that he has taken up membership at Nailcote Hall. It was a shrewd investment.
" The prize money enabled me to keep playing this year." Mason told us, " It ' s a key event for me to do well in so I thought that for the sake of the membership if it could help me in any way, it would be worth doing."
He is not wrong there. The British Par 3 Championship comes with a first prize of 50,000 Euros so any advantage is greatly sort after. For Ashley, success at this tournament can provide the much-needed resources to embark on bigger and better things.
