PGA IGI ADOLM Brendon Kop - General Manager, Penrith Golf Club The GMA National Conference is fast approaching and I for one cannot wait to attend this year, for what will be my 6th GMA National Conference. To me, the National Conference is the one ‘must attend’ event that I recommend to my Board of Directors for consideration. The GMA does a fantastic job of assembling the national conference that directly relates to ‘the now’ and is not simply put together just for the sake of it being held every two years. The content and the presenters are always of a very high calibre, which means I get to leave the conference having learnt new ideas and methods, as well as being highly motivated to take things back to my club for Board of Directors. With the theme of this year’s conference being ‘Now is the I could relate that to my experience of completing the PGAIGI Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management (ADOLM) that I was fortunate to have won last year. Having completed a few units thus far, I can honestly say that I some relevant educational content that has made me re-evaluate how I undertake 16 I GOLF MANAGEMENT AUSTRALIA various facets of my role on a daily basis. What I have learnt is that ‘what you know and how you go about things, isn’t always what is best’. The ADOLM has given me a new insight into my job role and how I communicate, plan and relate to club members, and planning for the future. Attending the GMA National Conference will surely provide additional items for consideration of ‘Now is the Directors. It has also taught me to think outside the box a lot more and to embrace change and ideas to ensure a successful journey for the club. amongst fellow industry colleagues across our beautiful country. I have made a number of friends at previous conferences that I have contacted for advice and feedback on various topics. It is always great to attend the conference and see someone that you met from another State at one of the previous conferences and the feeling that it is a long lost friend that you are re-engaging with. The conference this year will cover daily themes such as “The Future – What it holds and harnessing potential”, “Resilience – Building Peak Personal & Club Performance” and “Leading into the Future – Seizing the Opportunity”. With some of the educational units that I have been and am currently studying, the topics covered in the GMA Conference should nicely complement the ADOLM and further improve my skill set going into the future with my club. My career thus far has seen my club look into diversity of the business model to create additional revenue streams, greater focus on customer service, making intuitive reviewing and creating I SPRING EDITION 2017 GMA Conference is the For any Club Managers that are considering attending the conference and have yet to make their decision and/or approach their Board, please consider it as an investment into your individual skillset, as well as an investment into your club going forward. For any club managers and/ interested in the ADOLM, I can only suggest that you contact the PGA and enquire about committing to the course. It is an investment in the future for both yourself and your club.
