Pelican Waters to get a ‘facelift’

A number of Pelican Waters Golf
Club members must have been
a little nervous when legendary
Australian golfer Greg Norman
turned up to watch them tee off
recently.
The Great White Shark was visiting
his first Queensland signature
golf course at Caloundra on the
Sunshine Coast to ratify changes
to the 18-hole championship
course.
But before rubber stamping any
changes, Norman was keen to
see for himself what some of the
members had been telling him.
“We are only making subtle
changes and part of the process
will be the elimination of some
bunkers,” he said.
That was music to the ears of
some members, particularly the
women and some of the older
members.
Norman said it was important
golfers of all levels were
considered when constructing a
golf course.
“Sometimes we (golf course
designers) don’t see the forest for
the trees and an architect needs to
listen to the members,” he said.
“A lot of times consideration isn’t
given to women and the elderly
who play the game.
“The fairways can be very
penalising for a woman because
she doesn’t have the ability to
carry over a bunker.
