GREG NORMAN PLAYS HIS LATEST CREATION IN VICTORIA
Former world number one golfer and global golfing entrepreneur Greg Norman was recently in Victoria to play his latest design , the Cathedral Lodge Golf Course , for the first time .
The Shark was contracted by Essendon AFL club president David Evans to design the 18-hole course on his estate north-east of Melbourne , on the Goulburn River near Alexandra in the Murrindindi Shire .
Norman spoke on the Triple M radio show , describing the new , yet incomplete , course as “ pure and simple ” and said it turned out “ absolutely magnificent .”
“ In the beginning he ( Evans ) wanted an Augusta National of Australia . No easy task indeed , we haven ’ t created Augusta national of Australia but we ’ ve created a special , special golf course right here in Thornton ,” the golfing great said on the show .
Norman went on to describe the Evans property as a “ unique piece of property ” with a “ unique environment to build a golf course .”
It is understood that Evans and Norman formally met back in 2013 at the Essendon-Collingwood Anzac Day match where the pair stroke up a strong friendship resulting in the new creation . Norman is also on the advisory board of Evan ’ s Melbourne-based stockbroking and investment firm , Evans and Partners .
