The Bridge Between Standing Still & Moving Forward
Firstly, a big congratulations to Adam Scott
and Co for their nail biting finale at 2013
Masters! And a special mention to Angel
Cabrera, a true sportsman. What an exciting
(and controversial) event but one that had a
dream final round with an Aussie winning. A
well done to Jason Day, Mark Leishman, and
John Senden for their terrific performances
and by putting a strong Aussie presence on
the world stage, once again.

Australia is pumped up on golf at moment, is
this the catalyst needed to start getting more
Australians interested in playing the fantastic
game? The upcoming 2013 Summer of Golf is
a prime time to leverage off the strong Aussie
performances.
Come on Aussies – let’s all get our priorities
in order and promote the game at all levelspeer, club, state and national. A coordinated
multi-level approach is required and the time
is now!
Welcome to our GIC 2013 Autumn
“Deux” issue which will touch a little on
the importance of education.
I’ve had the honour of lecturing for the
PGA International Golf Institute for the past
several years and to share my knowledge and
experience with a new generation of the golf
industry. As they are heading into the start
of their career, I’m reminded that I must stay
current on my education as well if I want to
keep moving forward in my career.
As in the bestselling book 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People - we must “sharpen our
saw” from time to time (or risk becoming
dull ;) - so let’s all commit to do this sooner
than later!
Many of my peers have taken on MBA’s, Club
Certifications, and other types of degrees all
in an effort to stay relevant and to help move
their careers forward. There are so many
opportunities available now in our region, via
webinars, local council, state associations,
and industry bodies.
In the second half of 2013, additionally there
are some great education and networking
opportunities available for the golf industry
in this region. The Golf Management
Australia Conference is being held in
Sydney September 1-5, Australian Turfgrass
Conference Twin Waters Resort on the
Sunshine Coast from 23-28 June, Asia Pacific
Golf Summit in Jakarta Nov 5-7, and let’s not
forget the US CMAA Conference in Feb 2014.
It is also great to see that the PGA of
Australia and Golf Australia have both gotten
behind the Golf Managers Association in
becoming supporting sponsors for the 2013
Conference being held in Sydney. The cross
promotion and support by our national
organisations is imperative and a strong sign
of mutual cooperation.
Let’s do our part and support these events
where all possible, and become a bit smarter
doing so.
