Enormous granite rocks at Volax village.
The lunar landscape in Volax (or Volakas)
village is not one you can easily forget.
Getting there, you see a plateau studded
with giant round granite boulders that
according to scientific research was the
aftermath of a volcanic eruption million
years ago. Another version claims that this
unique geological phenomenon is the result
of a meteor shower, while according to a
third one, the site was once a sea bottom!
Beside your visit at the site with the huge
boulders, it is worth taking a walk in the
village and getting personally acquainted
with the traditional art of basket weaving.

XINAR A
On the outskirts of Xompoyrgo is
the heartbeat of Catholicism on the
island, since here is the seat of the
Catholic Archdiocese of Tinos. In Xinara
is dominating the majestic Palace of
Despotis (former Seminary converted into
Ecclesiastical Museum) and the Virgin of
Rosary (Catholic Archdiocese Cathedral).
