ΓΙΑΛΟΣ GIALOS
Απόλυτα γραφικός, ο Γιαλός ήταν εκείνο το
σημείο της Χώρας που πρώτο εντυπωσίαζε
τους επισκέπτες κατά την άφιξή τους στη
Μύκονο, ενώ σήμερα αποτελεί παραλιακό
meeting point, με μια θαλασσινή περα-
ντζάδα κατά μήκος της οποίας εκτείνονται
εστιατόρια, café-bars και κοσμηματοπω-
λεία. Στην άκρη του βρίσκεται το χαρακτη-
ριστικό κτήριο του Δημαρχείου και ο Άγιος
Νικόλας της Καδένας, από όπου αναχω-
ρούν τα καραβάκια για τη Δήλο. Absolutely picturesque, Gialos used to be
the first spot in Chora that impressed
every visitor upon their arrival in Mykonos.
Nowadays it is a coastal meeting point,
with a seafront promenade lined with
restaurants, café-bars and jewelry stores.
At the edge of Gialos stand the iconic
building of the Town Hall and the church
of Agios Nikolaos, the departure point for
boats heading to Delos.

Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση, το εκκλησά-
κι στην άκρη του Γιαλού οικοδομήθηκε
γύρω στο 1700 σε σημείο που εκείνη
την εποχή ήταν ξεχωριστή νησίδα
και ενωνόταν με τη στεριά μέσω μιας
τοξωτής γέφυρας με καδένες (αλυσίδες)
–εξ ου και το όνομα–. Σήμερα αποτελεί
σύμβολο του γραφικού παλιού λιμανιού
και σημείο συνάντησης για ντόπιους και
επισκέπτες.

According to tradition, the small chapel at
the edge of Gialos was built circa 1700 in
a location which was an individual islet at
that time, connected to the land through
an arch bridge with chains (kadenas).
This Orthodox temple was rebuilt under
the auspices of the first Russian Consul
of Archipelago, and got its distinct blue
dome during the period of 1908 – 1912.
Today it is a symbol of the picturesque old
port as well as a meeting point for locals
and visitors.
