ΒΩΛΑΞ VOLAX
Το σεληνιακό τοπίο στο χωριό Βωλάξ (ή
Βώλακας) δεν ξεχνιέται εύκολα. Φτά-
νοντας εκεί, αντικρίζεις ένα οροπέδιο
διάσπαρτο από γιγαντιαίους στρογγυ-
λούς γρανιτένιους ογκόλιθους, το οποίο
σύμφωνα με τους ερευνητές προέκυψε
από ηφαιστειακή έκρηξη πριν από εκα-
τομμύρια χρόνια. Μια δεύτερη εκδοχή
θέλει το μοναδικό γεωλογικό φαινόμενο
να οφείλεται σε πτώση μετεωριτών, ενώ
σύμφωνα με μια τελευταία πρόκειται για
τον πυθμένα θάλασσας! The lunar landscape in Volax (or Volakas)
village is not one you can easily forget.
Getting there, you see a plateau studded
with giant round granite boulders that
according to scientific research was the
aftermath of a volcanic eruption million
years ago. Another version claims that this
unique geological phenomenon is the result
of a meteor shower, while according to a
third one, the site was once a sea bottom!
Beside your visit at the site with the huge
boulders, it is worth taking a walk in the
village and getting personally acquainted
with the traditional art of basket weaving.

Στις παρυφές του Ξώμπουργου χτυ-
πά η καρδιά του καθολικισμού του
νησιού, αφού εδώ βρίσκεται η έδρα
της Καθολικής Αρχιεπισκοπής Τήνου.
Στην Ξινάρα δεσπόζουν το μεγαλοπρε-
πέστατο Παλάτι του Δεσπότη (πρώην
ιεροσπουδαστήριο που μετατράπηκε σε
εκκλησιαστικό μουσείο) και η Παναγία
του Ροδαρίου (Μητρόπολη Καθολικής
Αρχιεπισκοπής).
