ΘΕΑΤΡΟ ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝ APOLLO THEATER
Το λαμπρό διώροφο κτήριο στην
πλατεία Ι. Βαρδάκα της Ερμούπολης
ανεγέρθηκε το 1864 σε σχέδια του
Ιταλού αρχιτέκτονα Pietro Sampo
και αποτελεί κορυφαίο δείγμα της
πολιτιστικής ανάπτυξης του τόπου. Η
διαμόρφωση του εσωτερικού με την
πλατεία, τον χώρο της ορχήστρας, τις
σειρές ξύλινων θεωρείων, το υπερώο
και το κομψοτέχνημα της ζωγραφι-
σμένης οροφής φέρνει στο νου τη
Σκάλα του Μιλάνου και γενικότερα τα
μεγάλα ευρωπαϊκά θέατρα. Στη σκηνή
του Απόλλωνα έχουν παρουσιαστεί
σπουδαίες όπερες και οπερέτες, ενώ
σήμερα φιλοξενούνται παραστάσεις
των τοπικών ερασιτεχνικών θεατρικών
ομάδων και οι ετήσιες εκδηλώσεις «Ερ-
μουπόλεια». The exquisite two-storey edif ice, located
in I. Vardakas square in Ermoupoli,
designed by the Italian architect Pietro
Sampo and erected in 1864, is a great
example of the cultural progress in
Syros. Its interior layout, with the
orchestra pit, the auditorium, the rows
of wooden loges, the high galleries
and the gem of the painted ceiling,
is strongly reminiscent of La Scala in
Milan and other prestigious European
theatres in general. The stage of Apollo
Theater has provided a home to very
important operas and operettas,
nowadays hosting performances by
local amateur theater groups, as well as
the annual event of “Ermoupolia”.
