ΠΑΡΑΠΟΡΤΙΑΝΗ PARAPORTIANI
Η Παραπορτιανή δεν είναι μία ακόμη
εκκλησία. Είναι δημιουργία ανώνυμων
Μυκονιατών μαστόρων που αναδεικνύει το
μεγαλείο της κυκλαδίτικης πλαστικότητας
και της λαϊκής αρχιτεκτονικής. Είναι ένας
από τους πιο φωτογενείς και πολυφωτο-
γραφημένους ναούς της Ελλάδας, που
πήρε το όνομά του από το παραπόρτι, τη
μικρή είσοδο στο Κάστρο. Το πολύπλοκο
ολόλευκο οικοδόμημα στέκει στο δυτικό
τμήμα του Κάστρου από τον 16ο-17ο αιώνα
και ουσιαστικά απαρτίζεται από πέντε να-
ούς, χτισμένους σε δύο επίπεδα. Ακριβώς
πίσω από την Παραπορτιανή βρίσκεται και
το εκκλησάκι της Αγίας Σωτήρας, όπου
είναι θαμμένος ο τελευταίος Έλληνας
πειρατής, Μανόλης Μερμελέχας. Paraportiani is not just another church.
It is the masterpiece of anonymous
Mykonian artisans, showcasing the
splendor of Cycladic plasticity and
folk architecture. It is one of the
most photogenic and photographed
Orthodox temples in Greece, named
after paraporti, the small entry gate to
the Kastro. This elaborate chalk-white
edifice stands on the western part of
Kastro since the 16th-17th century and
is essentially comprised of five temples,
built on two levels. At the back side of
Paraportiani stands the chapel of Agia
Sotira, where the last Greek pirate,
Manolis Mermelehas, lied buried.
