Morning came all too soon. Guess I had passed out when my head hit the pillow. Maybe it was the wine; maybe it was the shock of finding out my best friend knew more about me than myself. If not for the alarm I might have slept my life away. Might have been a good option. It was 6 a.m. Carmen was due here in two hours. I guess I got up too quickly finding myself still dizzy. I sat on the edge of the bed until I regained my balance. I went to get a cup of coffee and found mother and Aunt Miranda up. Mother hardly ever rose before eight. She had been crying. Her eyes were swollen and red. I wanted to say it but kept it inside. I wanted her to go with me to Santa Fe. Yes, damn it, I was scared. You can be grown up and still need your mother. I knew the real reason she wasn’t going. She was still a damaged soul. How could I blame her? Perhaps if the spell came to fruition and I do save father’s soul, then she’ll be able to move on too.

I poured a cup of the warm brew and sat at the table. Mother sat next to me. “You’ll be fine Daniella. You know Aunt Miranda and I cannot go with you. We’ll be there in spirit.”

Amazing, how that woman was reading my mind. “I know mom. Don’t worry. You know I love you. I’ve managed to survive trauma for some twenty years, I think I can handle a trip to Santa Fe to see another witch for a few days.”

Aunt Miranda chimed in. “Make no mistake Daniella. Nina Santos is no ordinary witch. She is a legendary Curandera with knowledge of a very old ancient magic. She will be able to heal you along with casting out any residual negative spirits and create a lasting protection spell. What was inflicted by Latrice’s spell will be corrected.

“ Whoa! So, Latrice is just going to get off ‘scot free’?”

“She will be served just what she sent out. Only time will tell, but she will pay the price,” Aunt Miranda informed.

“Well, let’s hope it’s served up soon.”

PARANORMAL SUSPENSE

"I enjoyed the story that combines a little supernatural in the suspense filled read."

"I loved Daniella, the main character here as she evolves into a strong woman when all the odds against her."

"Mystery, romance, and...witches. Or are they? I love a good misdirection story and this one has it in spades. Is Dani herself a witch?"
