HOW IT ALL STARTED
Yes, I am one of "those people". You know the ones--
the misfits who run around looking for flowers in a
mountain of rocks. I am a Poet. A writer of verse.
I have been creating poetry as long as I can
remember. As a child, I added verses to Mother
Goose rhymes and Dr. Seuss tales just because I
thought they were too short. (They really were!)
SCHOOL OFFERS OPTIONS
In high school I did dabble a bit with short stories. I wrote two
whose plots remain in my head to this day. The first was the
story of Inspector Concord Grape and his informant the sexy
Chardonnay. He was investigating the rash of missing persons
happening in DeFacto's Vineyard. You might have already
figured out, I grew up when The Godfather and all the other
Mafia books were very popular.
The other one I remember writing about was a story of how
the Earth was created. Two Martians were having a party and
the beverage delivery from Pluto overshot the Planet and
crashed with the pizza delivery ship from Mercury. It was "the
Big Bang" that everyone has theorized about for the past
century!
I did enjoy writing those. Then I took a course where I had to
keep a notebook and write my opinions and feelings about the
topics and books we discussed. The only person aware of what
was written inside those pages besides myself was the teacher.
I could be completely honest and no one would be able to tell
me I was wrong. I would read it later and see if I felt the same
or differently. My fresh viewpoint I would add to the book. It
was exhilarating and liberating. Writing short complete ideas
