"So much of my time, effort and stamina go into writing a book and part of me too. I value myself; I value my work and why should I be worth nothing?"

Scott Carruba

"There is too much expectation out there for free or under-priced books. It takes authors a great deal of time and effort to write, edit, and publish a book. A book is yours to keep and re-visit whenever you like, or you can pass it along to a friend or family member. These treasures are highly valuable and should be treated as such."

Rose Montague

"The goal of this event is not to tell authors that with have a beef with them because they are giving their books away. It is to raise awareness of the issue that too many free books are hurting our industry, lowering the market value of our books. We hope to sell books without giving away our livelihood, spending more that we make on prizes and gift cards, and giving free books away. It's the mindset we want to change. There are many great readers out there that want to support us and show their support by buying our books. They don't have to be bribed to do so. In addition, authors are usually big readers as well. I'm happy to buy some books during this event and I will enjoy reading them."

Rachel Shell Vance

"As a reader I get sick of hearing other readers telling authors their books should be free. That's ridiculous! Authors do a job and should get paid for it just like any other job. People that work in an office or factory aren't expected to work for free and authors shouldn't be expected to either."

Maggie Anderson

"The soul of a writer is poured into their books and shouldn't be given away for free."

Kasper Beaumont

"I believe authors deserve recognition for what usually takes a year to produce. Please support your authors."

Writing is what I do. It's all I can do and so it's how I make a living. And I worry that when people get a free book, they decide it's worth exactly what they paid for it.
