STEP 3 :
If you have permission , you might like to gather your gold haul in a central location . Alternatively , you can make a list of the things you discover , as you go . Your list could look like this :
Item Real gold ? Y / N Why ?
STEP 4 :
Which item do you think has the most gold in it ? How can you tell the difference between something that IS gold , and something that LOOKS like gold ? Are there any items you ’ re surprised about ?
STEP 5 :
Look through each item in your list and come up with reasons to explain why gold was used instead of another metal like steel or copper . Here are some words that might help you with your reasoning :
LEVEL UP
o A lot of gold is hidden inside our electronic devices , in what is called a circuit board . Ask an adult helper if they have any old , handheld electronics they don ’ t mind taking apart for you , like a telephone , digital clock , remote control or stereo .
o With their help , take a look at the circuit board – can you see any gold there ? Count how many gold connectors you can see . How many other items in your house do you think might have circuit boards like this ?
