Monzo is a smart mobile banking
app that tracks your spending and
gives you monthly breakdowns on
where your money goes.
It's an ideal way to control what
comes in and out. You see where
each pound is spent in your
account. It allows you to create
‘pots’ and categories to organise
payments e.g buying lunch.
It's easy to understand and to
track your expenses on a monthly
basis and keep an eye on
overspending. Yolt is a quick, easy and secure
budgeting app – I had no concerns
about syncing my bank accounts
and it gives you a simple step-to-
step guide on how to get started.
One handy tip: it originally sorts
out your bank transactions for
you but you can change them
to a more appropriate category.
For example, all the money I
spent on TFL originally went within
‘travel’, however, I changed this
to the more appropriate category
‘transport’.

Loot aims to help students and
those entering the job market
budget via the app and a
mastercard. The ‘budget circle’
lets you see your expenses, and
changes colour depending on
whether you are in budget or over
budget. The only issue is that after
the first couple of cash withdrawals,
you are charged £1 each time,
depending on how often you get
cash out. Loot should definitely be
considered when trying to save
some cash. The Money Dashboard
The app is very straightforward
to use. You’re able to opt in for
notifications and email reports
to keep you on track. On the
home page, you have a wheel,
which is divided into different
spending categories – transport,
appearance, etc, which varies
in size depending on how much
you spend in each. You can set
different budgets to suit your
needs, how often you want your
budget to last.
