Formaly known as Sofia Nicole, SOF is an indie-pop artist who brings an interesting vibe to pop music. Her first single 'Ghost' is out now.
Why did you change your name to SØF from Sofia Nicole?
My full name is Sofia Nicole Khorosh, and when I first started performing live I wanted a cool stage name. My last name is hard to spell and most people mispronounce it, so I thought just using my first and middle name would work much better. For a long time my name really reflected my sound- it was pretty and soft and nice-sounding, but it really had no edge. I decided that I wanted a more “indie” name, and since everyone calls me Sof anyway, I figured I'd make my stage name SØF. The Ø just looks cool.
How do you describe your sound?
My sound is edgy, upbeat, catchy, sassy and a little funky.
What made you fall in love with music? I've been in love with music all my life. Ever since I was a baby I was just always singing. It's such a release for me. Performing gives me such a high, and writing is complete catharsis.
What is the story behind , 'Ghosts'?
I was harboring a lot of resentment toward a former flame of the person I was dating, and it was starting to really affect my relationship. I decided that I wouldn't allow myself to be consumed by the past, so I wrote “Ghosts” in an effort to move on. dating, and it was starting to really affect my relationship. Take this from her debut single:
You can't change the past. As much as I'm sure everyone has wanted to at some point, they just can't. You have the option to either let your experiences shape you and help you grow, or hold onto grudges and stay stuck in your memories. When you look at it objectively like that, one option is clearly better than the other.
On Girl Empowerment:
Girls rock! I'm proud to be a woman and I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. My gender doesn't hold me back. Sexism is still present in our society, but I want all girls to know that we’re strong and capable of achieving anything we work hard for. We need to support one another.
