What was the first song you ever wrote?

Goodbyes was actually the first song I wrote! I was 13. I would always write stories or little jingles as a kid, but Goodbyes was the first time I actually sat on my floor, with my guitar and wrote a full song.

What inspires you to write?

Everything inspires me. My life, my best friends' lives, uber drivers and their stories. I'm constantly being inspired by other music too. When I hear a great song it makes me feel so giddy and I immediately pick up my guitar and start writing.

What do you think changed in your career from when 'Goodbyes' came out to now?

I have grown SO much as a person. I have been through so much but I wouldn't trade my journey for anything. It's made me so much stronger. And honestly, if I would've had an easy and comfortable road, I don't think I would've been up for all the risky/challenging opportunities that have led to amazing things.

Your voice has definitely changed too. What made you kind of let go of the pop style and do more RnB?

It wasn't a conscious decision. Once I moved out to LA and started writing every day with amazing writers and producers, I melodically fell in love with more R&B driven melodies. I loved pushing myself and going for the more challenging melodies. So it became more of a rhythmic/RnB mixture.
