"If you only knew
It would be a dream come true. Standing next to you, Yeah I might go insane to know" - The lyrics that rang throughout my middle school hallway everyday. The song I quoted from now has over 5+ million views. Savannah Outen is the name and nine years later, she is better then ever!
Savannah I have to say I still remember the first time I heard 'Goodbyes' while I was in middle school and instantly became a fan. You are definitely one of my favorite artists. What did you learn from that era of your music?
Aw! Thank you so much! That makes me so happy! I learned SO much. I got to know the ins and outs of the music industry. I'm glad my career has been a slow journey and it hasn't all happened overnight because I really got to discover who I am as an artist and what I want to say.
What drew you into music in the first place?
Music has always been so important to me. I grew up dancing so it played a huge part. Also, my parents surrounded me with great music since day one and always took me to concerts. I fell in love with it all and realized I wanted to be the one on stage with people singing along to my songs.
What was the first song you ever wrote?
Goodbyes was actually the first song I wrote! I was 13. I would always write stories or little jingles as a kid, but Goodbyes was the first time I actually sat on my floor, with my guitar and wrote a full song.
" If you have a dream, don't ever stop believing in yourself and keep fighting"
What inspires you to write?
Everything inspires me. My life, my best friends' lives, uber drivers and their stories. I'm constantly being inspired by other music too. When I hear a great song it makes me feel so giddy and I immediately pick up my guitar and start writing.
What do you think changed in your career from when 'Goodbyes' came out to now?
I have grown SO much as a person. I have been through so much but I wouldn't trade my journey for anything. It's made me so much stronger. And honestly, if I would've had an easy and comfortable road, I don't think I would've been up for all the risky/challenging opportunities that have led to amazing things.
Your voice has definitely changed too. What made you kind of let go of the pop style and do more RnB?
It wasn't a conscious decision. Once I moved out to LA and started writing every day with amazing writers and producers, I melodically fell in love with more R&B driven melodies. I loved pushing myself and going for the more challenging melodies. So it became more of a rhythmic/RnB mixture.
