The use of technology is now inherent to the banking sector and the legal team has to provide support in relation to products such as “ONE PAY FX”, “WE TRADE” or “APPLE PAY”. Using this technology means a traditional and physical card becomes a token. Santander’s leading position in mobile payments has resulted in initiatives such as Fitbit Pay, the implementation of which has brought new legal challenges. Finally the use of blockchain technology allows the bank to process payment orders faster has been another key focus for the legal team.
