students have the privileged
opportunity
to
refine
their
individual goals and resolve to
make healthy choices, all while
getting physical in the gym. The
Recovery Education Prevention
(REP) program provides students
with a way to make the healthy mind/healthy body
connection. Students are led through this process by Rob
Archuleta, founder of Addict 2 Athlete. A2A is a program
designed to help people transition from addiction to a healthy,
active and fulfilling lifestyle. Archuleta creates a safe
environment for the students to feel comfortable as they
mature and grow into young adults.
Twice a week students and a few teachers meet at the InZone
fitness facility prepared to “get real” and get sweaty. Led by
Archuleta, students discuss decision making patterns, personal
goals, handling emotions, and addressing the barriers they
face in their lives. The space is safe and completely available
for students to be open and honest about their personal
circumstances. Following this session, students are ready to
get sweaty. Without the use of weights and expensive
equipment, students learn how to stretch properly and workout
their muscles while building cardio.
The entire group endures the workout together, sometimes
having to depend on each other. Working together is another
way for students to build relationships and build trust within
those relationships. This skill will be useful to them as they
interact in the real world.
As GOAL continually strives
to create productive and
contributing members of
society, it is important that
students learn the value of
the overall health benefits
for both the mind and the
body. Exceptional programs like this take students away from
the traditional four walls of the class room and into the gym.
Here they are given a unique approach to maintaining a
healthy and active lifestyle that cultivates each student as a
