SO SO

SOUVENIR

If you’ ve come to the island by air or by sea chances are that Barbados is just a stop, whether for a short or a long stay. The precious moments you shared with loved ones, the great times that you have could only be better if you took a memento, something to remember us by when you returned home to your native land.

rooms. It’ s even a great conversation piece for your desktop at work to make your co-workers envious of your fantastic holiday tales.

Bajan artisans are among the most talented in the world with pieces gracing the walls in such affluent homes as the white house and hanging in galleries and museums worldwide. If you can afford a sizeable original painting then these impressive timeless works are sure to be a treasured souvenir that will most likely increase in value as time passes. However, if your purse is a little“ lighter” then consider the functionality of a print, a small painting or another type of craft( leather, pottery etc.) as a valuable keep sake.

Barbados is known as the birthplace of rum and our oldest rum Mount Gay is 311 years old. Mount Gay stands as the oldest recorded rum in the world and a bottle of their 1703 makes and excellent gift for loves ones or connoisseurs.

A PIECE OF ART / CRAFT
RUM
CERAMICS
We just love the ceramic option, perfect for kitchen counters or for living or dining
Our tastes fall toward the little chattel houses, colourful replicas of a slowly disappearing architectural style from a bygone era. Also straight out of the time machine are the mother sally / fruit vendors, which ca still be seen to some degree selling fruit and vegetables island wide.

4

RUM CAKE
If you don’ t want just rum, then try cake with rum. Bajan rum cake is similar to English Figgie pudding, but much better. Check out our February edition for a fab black cake recipe or if you aren’ t a baker buy a cake and indulge at home. Share it with family & friends or save it all for yourself while you reminisce on your trip to Barbados.

5

SAND
We may take it for granted, but for some, this time on the island has been their first and possibly their last encounter with beautiful pink sandy beaches. Those are the ones that you see frolicking happily on the beach or tanning from sunrise to sunset. We feel that a beautiful bottle of the good stuff to go along with your epic holiday stories could be just perfect to remind you of the great times you had in Barbados.

6

MAGNETS / KEY CHAIN
I’ m a local but I still have a have a magnet that says“ Barbados Dreams” sitting at home on the refrigerator, but to be honest I collect them! Conversely nothing is easier to buy or as reasonably priced as a magnet or key chain! It’ s the perfect item for those who have to buy multiple gifts, and a keepsake that can last for years.

7

BARBADOS T-SHIRT
Can you really go wrong with a shirt that reads“ Barbados!” or“ I love Barbados” or“ I drank rum in Barbados? Or all of the above? OK! OK! I’ m biased – what about a shirt with a map on it?
