ARLINGTON MUSEUM
Don’ t be surprised if you get struck by Pirate fever after a trip to Arlington Museum. An intricately designed blend of old and new, this interactive museum provides a one of a kind view of old Speightstown and provides insight into what it may have been like to be a swashbuckler. The museum is home to a prominent feature on Stede Bonnet, an early Barbadian pirate and ravager of the high seas. Check out his exhibit on the top floor.
FOLKESTONE MARINE PARK & MUSEUM
Almost right next door is a natural reserve for ocean life. The Folkestone National Park is a great place to take the time to unwind. You will find access to amenities such as picnic benches, glass bottom boats, playground and snorkeling … there’ s something for the whole family. Oh! Be sure to look out for Simon Cowell! Yes we said Simon Cowell … from American Idol. He owns a nearby home right here on island and is frequently spotted on the surrounding beaches. So keep your eyes peeled, he may be walking by.
HOLETOWN CHATTEL VILLAGE
The west provides a bevy of retail experiences for the avid shopper. This includes the islands chattel village, a unique island experience, with fantastic shopping hidden behind the façade of old Barbadian homes of yesteryear. The area has been fashioned to provide a“ jalousie window” to that time.
GET A HOLE IN ONE
If you aren’ t up for shopping, snorkeling or sightseeing but are a sports lover instead. Then pull on those plaid pants, argyle socks and those monochromatic shoes and head over to the Sandy Lane Golf Club or up to Westmoreland for a few rounds. It’ s may be a bit pricey, but it’ s a must for avid golfers. Check out page 28 for courses & competitions.
Last but not least is one of our favourite things to do in the West … See a movie at Limegrove Cinemas. Two theaters, plush seating, push button assistance, popcorn too big to eat by yourself and delicious burgers and fries served by the hostess and prepared by the chef. We love it there! Check online to see what’ s on now.
DINING
As night falls, head home and go straight to bed. Immediately! Well, no not really! Head out to dinner at one of the fabulous eateries in your neighbourhood. Tides( upscale dining), Zaccios( ocean front dining), Surfside( sports bar), Elbow room( steak house), Sitar for Indian food and the list goes on. If you need to work up an appetite or work off the food then take a stroll around Holetown, window shop at Limegrove or shake a leg to the resident Dj at Elbow room on Fridays.
