John Frazier , operator / manager of the Mt . Olive Waterworks System in Grambling , Louisiana , has come up with a new way to inspect the 130 feet overhead water tower storage tank . By using a drone Frazier can see rust spots , corrosion , cracks , water leaks , or any other potential problems that may occur .
“ In the past , we have had to employ a person from a water tank service company to physically climb the 130 ft . tank , to walk around the tank catwalk to inspect the tank ,” Frazier said .
“ With drones , we can more efficiently and safely handle this task . We can now fly the drone around the tank at a closer distance to inspect it , without the expense or endangering human life ,” he said .
Though drones have received quite a bit of negative publicity , Frazier wanted to shed some light on the positive aspects for the use of his drone .
Frazier said , “ Drones can be used for aerial photography , surveillance for fire , traffic , flooding , crop monitoring , videoing events from above ground and so many other things .”
The drone Frazier uses is a Qx2 with a Gopro action video camera unit . It is equipped with four 1100 KV brushless out runner motors , four 10 amp brushless ESC , 3000 MAH 3s 11.1v 20C Li-po batteries . It is also equipped with a GPS system and with three flight modes : Smart mode , Ap mode , and Stability mode . The camera unit can record video or take snap shots .
“ Although there are many different types of drones , the Qx2 works well for inspecting the water system ’ s overhead tank ,” Frazier said .
The drone software is Firmware 3.0 that has the option for upgrading using a desktop computer , laptop or IPad . The radio control unit that controls the drone is a DSM Spectrum 8-channel , 2.4 GHz transmitter that has a return home switch .
Frazier has been designing , building and flying R / C ( radio-control ) type aircraft for many years .
He is a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics ( AMA ) and possesses a license that allows him to fly R / C aircraft and drones . According to Frazier , there are some specific guidelines a drone pilot should adhere to such as , not flying above 400 ft . ground level , and not flying within three miles of an airport without notifying the airport operators , just to name a few . Frazier said he lives by these rules .
He is a graduate of the Grambling State University labortatory schools and the university , receiving a bachalor ’ s degree . He also earned a vocational technical and industrial education master ’ s certifcate from the state of Louisiana Department of Education to teach in the system for a life time .
Frazier continued his studies at Northwestern State University and Grambling State to complete a master ’ s degree .
His first job was an indutrial engineer at General Motors in Flint , Michigan engine division . Frazier returned to Grambling and pursued a teching career at the Louisiana Technical College-Ruston Campus and Grambling State University ’ s Department of Engineering Technicology .
Frazier said that he has been toying with the idea of using his drone to also aid in locating other possible problems in the water system such as leaking water lines , by flying over them and looking for green grass spots or the movement of water . The camera system on his drone also has the capability of sending live video via Wi-Fi to Frazier ’ s cell phone enabling him to view live video on his cell phone while the drone is in flight .

STAFF REPORT
goals and dreams in life . I ’ m just a vassal that ’ s setting examples to show them back at home that greatness is upon them , so they just have to walk in their calling and destiny ,” a d d e d Meadows . Meadows platform Making
Power Moves and No Noise the word Power stands for Providing , Opening , Working , Empowering , Redefined .
Meadows explaining his platform said the Grambling State University student body have the power in us but we don ’ t know that we have it . My job as the SGA President would defintiely make sure that student body is receiving the best service as possible . GSU and the student body needs strong strategy that can advance SGA and advance the student body and also take our prestigious institution to another dimension .
Once in office Meadows wants to keep the student body supportive by implementing his vision . He wants to attack several issues . His main two visions are first researching why fees are constantly increasing , and second pool renovations . This semester he has worked closely with current SGA President Johnathan Wallace and Dr . David “ Rusty ” Ponton dealing with building concerns moving items in and out because Grambling keeps going over on their bid .
Meadows is currently serving as President Wallace chief of staff for 2015-16 , he was also assigned to supervise over all administration council .
“ I did a lot of things out of my role never complained ,” said Meadows .
“ I just believe in making sure that Grambling State University has what it takes to move forward . My job basically was making sure that when Johnathan Wallace was going and doing different things makeing sure
Student Government was still flowing .”
“ I would make sure class cabinets are being held accountable for their actions . Make sure they are implementing what they said during election . I could go on and on about my task but I actually believe that ’ s why the student body voted me for SGA President ,” added Meadows .
Other issues he plans to tackle are campus safety , color printing and Aramark . With crime and drugs rates rising , along with dim lighting or no lighting at night Meadows has vison . One thing he wants to incorporate is the use of SGA golf carts . His team and him will transport young ladies working late nights to their dorm rooms . In addition , this summer he ’ s linking up with Ponton to get the cross walks painted , and find out why campus police are not always out .
Meadows said If they don ’ t want to really work or do their job to make sure Grambling State student body is in safe hands this not for them .
The video file may be downloaded to any computer for viewing later as well .
So if you see something that appears to be a UFO hovering in the sky around the Mt . Olive area of Grambling , no need to fear they are not aliens , only one of Frazier ’ s drones .

Jacob T . Stewart is the main computer lab on campus but it doesn ’ t offer color printing . What the student body doesn ’ t know is we have a Student Technology Committee . He will speak with the STC to insure that color ink is offered in every building on campus because us they students are paying for it . He feels we deserve the best because we are paying for it .
Also , he is strongly looking into allowing student to take food out of McCall Dining Hall . He is working hand and hand with food service director Eddie Rushing and assistant food director Carday Marshall . GSU is under a contract with Aramark , Meadows want to know when the contract expires or afford to buy the Aramark contract out .
“ We have to understand if it wasn ’ t for the student there ’ s no Grambling . Our students have to receive the best service as possible . So they can continue to come to Grambling , stay at Grambling and also graduate from Grambling , added Meadows .
