Bennagirls Fall In Caribbean Cup Opener
August 21, 2014
Port of Spain, Trinidad – The Bennagirls fell to a two goal defeat versus the
French Island of Martinique, in their opening match of the Inaugural Women’s Caribbean Cup.
The Antigua team started off promising in the early minutes, as they pressured Martinique and kept them restricted to their own half. But a mistake at the back was all it
took for Martinique to open up the scoring in the 12th minute against the run of play.
Martinique then slowed down the pace of the game and kept most of the possession
during the first half. The Bennagirls most promising chance came in the 40′ minute
when Marley Jarvis whipped in a free kick from outside the 18 yard box which hit the
post.
In the second half Martinique tried to control most of the ball possession as the Antigua team came out more aggressive. but to no avail Martinique scored once again
from corner kick as Prisca Carin was able to tap in the ball from close range in.
The Antigua team face an uphill battle as they face host and group favorites Trinidad
& Tobago on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium at 7PM.
