9 St. Anthony’s Secondary School (SASS) is a six year old learning institution dedicated to facilitating students in finding their niche in the world of either Academia, Sports, Visual Arts, Music and/or the Performing Arts. The School offers training in several sports, i.e. Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, and Fencing. Football being the most popular sport, it was therefore imperative that we take on the challenge of bringing our young footballers up to a level that allowed them to compete at a National level and even internationally. Hence we started the SASS Football Club, an after school club that would train three times per week. Our players are both male and female and range in age from 11 years old to 18 years old. Mr. Vernon ‘Epilus’ Edwards our then head coach, joined forces with Mr. Ricky Santos, Chairman of the Board of SASS and Generation Next FC (GNFC) was formed. Our football players fed into GNFC and a very positive relationship developed between the two entities, a “win win” situation. Our students are invited to participate in all of the first class training that GNFC has to offer through their local coaches as well as the variety of international professional clubs’ coaches that have come to Antigua to facilitate football camps hosted by GNFC. Generation Next FC is indeed fulfilling its commitment to the youth of Antigua in their quest to become top class football players. Antigua needed a top of the line Football Club designed in the training of the youth and in my estimation, GNFC is such a Club. GNFC places the emphasis on the youth and their future and it is for this reason that St. Anthony’s Secondary School is proud to align itself with such a positive organization. I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations on this magazine….once again a bold and forward thinking undertaking by Generation Next FC. Joann Boulos-Callias Principal—St. Anthony’s Secondary School
