He came west to the Hyatt Carmel Highlands and the club at Pebble Beach before landing at Tempo Kitchen and Bar . His creative flair in the kitchen is only surpassed by his natural charm and friendly demeanor . Chef makes his way to every table , checking on patrons , answering questions and sharing laughs . Following Chef Oscar and Dan and Nancy ’ s lead , the entire wait and bar staff go the extra mile to create a great experience .
For dinner I had the Braised Pork Shank ( braised in cherry cola , served with cheese polenta and seasonal roasted vegetables ). Tender , tasty and the polenta was perfectly flavored and cooked . Ron went with the Beer Battered Fish & Chips ( coleslaw , house made tartar ). The hearty filets were tender and tasty , in a crispy , light and flakey crunch . Of course , Deb went with spice — ordering the House Made Bolognese Pasta ( red wine sauce with Spanish chorizo , beef , served with fettuccine pasta ). It was flavorful and hearty , and really a perfect dish . Lynne chose the Chicken Jerusalem ( grilled chicken breast , mashed potatoes , grilled artichokes , citrus cream sauce , topped with sunchokes ). The chicken was tender and flavorful in a delightful sauce . The artichokes and veggies were done to perfection . Somehow we ended up with an order of Chicken Parmesan that was perfectly prepared — moist and tender in a crispy crust , topped with a nice marinara . Our dinners were as great as the entire night had been to this point . Then it got a little better .
For dessert Deb confidently looked to me to take the lead . Once I confirmed I had her permission , I did . You see , I am the dessert king . Raspberry Lemon cake , check ! Chocolate Mousse Bomb , check ! As I went down the list , Dan smiled and said “ I ’ ve got something you ’ ll love .” He came back a few minutes later with Tempo ’ s Signature Rice Pudding Brulee with bananas and berries . This was a trifecta ! We shared — mostly . We all loved every bite . You have got to try these desserts !
Before we knew it , the night was at end . We said farewell to our wonderful hosts Dan and Nancy and headed out . As we said goodnight to our great friends , I realized that Dan and Nancy intentionally designed a space where tempo rubato thrives . Patrons can take it fast , slow , or somewhere in between . The result is a beautiful space where the rubato of Tempo Kitchen and Bar does what all good music does .
Here the mosaic of our individual rubato collectively plays in perfect time , filling the space . The result is Tempo Allegro , known as the heartbeat tempo , or “ the sweet spot ” in music . It resonates into the street and into the new emerging vibe that is downtown — the heart of Gilroy . And , as the song says — the beat goes on .
Tempo Kitchen and Bar offers lunch and dinner featuring a wide variety of flavors and creative ingredients . The appetisers , salads , soups , seafood , pasta and flavorful , smoked meats with great sides are sure to please .
