Henry was right there with them . “ My dad used to coach all my brothers in baseball ,” Joyce said . “ I wanted to play baseball , but they didn ’ t have a league for girls in Gilroy , so my dad and a couple of other people started a team they called Miss Gilroy .”
The members of the Diaz family were not only avid sports lovers , but car lovers as well . “ I always remember him and the rides up to the baseball field , and going up to Mt . Madonna for BBQ ’ s and riding in the back of his ‘ 34 ’ pick-up ,” son Ted said . “ And we still have good times .”
Ron agrees that his father was very involved in everything they did . One of his favorite memories involves making a cake for Boy Scouts . “ We made it like a wagon and while we were taking it to the meeting it fell over , so when we got it there it was a broken down wagon ,” Ron said . “ It was pretty awesome .”
“ Good memories ,” Henry added .
The Diaz home was everyone ’ s home . “ The door was always open , always open ,” Joyce said .
“ Everyone just liked being around my mom and dad all the time because they were just great people ,” Ron said .
Henry ’ s generosity and unwavering love continues to encapsulate every generation of the Diaz family . His granddaughter Michelle Diaz , describes him as , “ having a heart of gold ”. “ He and my grandmother let myself and my three children come live with them when times were tough for us . They opened their doors , with no questions asked . Even with that being a wonderful gift , the gift of my children growing up in his home and getting to know him has been the best gift of all .” ( continued )
