City of Gilroy breaks ground on the new downtown parking lot on the former site of the Gillroy Demonstration Garden . Located on 7th and Eigleberry Streets adjacent to the VFW Building and Gourmet Ally , the site had been abandoned for years by the organization managing the garden , becoming an eye sore and haven for illicit activity . Always a temporary location for the garden , the parking lot is one more good step towards one day having a thriving downtown .
