Garlic City Car Show Slated for June 18
The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce is excited to bring back the Garlic City Car Show to Downtown Gilroy after a two year hiatus . The show will take place Saturday , June 18 , 2022 , from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm , and will feature live music , vendors , and over 200 of the coolest classic cars in Gilroy .
In 2019 , the Garlic City Car Show was featured on the TV show , “ My Classic Car ” with Dennis Gage and drew over 10,000 people and over 350 cars to Downtown Gilroy . This was the largest show in history , and the Chamber was looking forward to a bigger and better year in 2020 . Then the pandemic hit .
The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce has produced and hosted the Garlic City Car Show since 2015 , which has grown tremendously thanks to the support of the car show participants and the Gilroy community . This year ’ s event will be scaled down slightly to ensure the car show will happen even with the uncertainty of the County ’ s Covid restrictions .
“ This is one of the more popular events in town ,” said Mark Turner , President / CEO of the Gilroy Chamber , “ and it ’ s important to our downtown businesses , the car show participants , and our community . We are glad to be at it once again .”
This year ’ s show will feature numerous makes and models , including Model T ’ s , custom classic cars , muscle cars , and so much more . As you walk up and down Monterey Street , you will be sure to see some of the best customized and restored cars in the area . The attention to detail , the chrome , custom paint jobs , pinstriping and tricked out cars will leave you oohing and awing . Award categories include Best of Show , President ’ s Award , Best Paint Job , and in tribute to our most famous closing act of many years , The Donald ‘ Elvis ’ Prieto Award .
Stop along the way and talk to the owners of the cars and learn what makes them so passionate about their cars and cars in general . Be sure to pop into one of the restaurants for lunch , a cold beer , or a glass of wine . There will be lots of choices throughout the downtown .
