What ’ s a few more weeks or months , anyway , considering the project has been in the works since its approval in 2016 ? Ghione is certain the $ 2.15 million project will be more than worth its price tag to the community .
What makes this park so special is that it is designed for children of all abilities , including those with disabilities , offering special features not found at typical parks .
These include slides and swings that allow children who use wheelchairs access — as well as caregivers . Interactive elements include an “ expression swing ” that parents can sit facing their children on ; a laser harp that children can make music with simply by touching it ; a two-story treehouse sponsored by the Edward Boss Prado Foundation , and “ retreat huts ” where children who are feeling overstimulated can catch some quiet time .
The latter is important to Teresa Pescke , a Morgan Hill mother of four , ages 3 to 12 . “ Having kids who are autistic , sometimes it ’ s hard to find a place where they all feel safe . Magical Bridge has so many great sensory options ,” she said .
The park will also be among very few that offer access to children who use equipment such as wheelchairs .
“ My child with multiple disabilities is often excluded and has restricted access to playgrounds , due to his wheelchair ,” said Kara Solomon , a Morgan Hill mother of three young children . “ The Magical Bridge playground will enable him to be a part of the shared play experiences with other children .”
In addition to being able to play near his brothers rather than “ just sitting on the sidelines ,” Solomon said , “ Also , hopefully other children will see that he is just like them and won ’ t be afraid of his differences . We have been anticipating this amazing playground for the past few years and are beyond excited that it will be opening soon !”
“ It ’ s a park for everybody ,” Ghione said . “ It will be awesome .”
